FREE INSPECTION

If you are living in a climate that can be as harsh as Minnesota, having a well-insulated home is a must.  Adding blown insulation to your attic is a great way to help keep your home comfortable all year round.  Find out if blown insulation from Above All Insulation is the right choice to meet your attic insulation needs.

What is Blown Insulation?

Blown insulation is a loose material that can be made up of fiberglass, cellulose, or rockwool. The material is evenly distributed over the area via a commercial insulation blower that looks like a large hose. This is used to cover the space with a uniform layer of insulation. The provides an even layer of insulation that minimizes gaps and maximizes efficiency.

Advantages to Blown Insulation

Adding blown-in insulation to your attic is simple and effective. There are a number of materials available for use in blown-in insulation, fiberglass, rockwool, and cellulose. If you choose cellulose insulation it is made from recycled paper, primarily newsprint which places it among the more environmentally friendly attic insulation options. Because it is blown-in it is able to fill the available spaces without leaving air gaps, fitting closely around any obstacles or obstructions creating a seamless insulation product.

Disadvantages of Blown Insulation

If you are insulating an attic that you will be entering often, blown insulation can be a bit messy, as it can be moved around as you cross the area. Also if you choose to remove your blown-in insulation it is more laborious than removing batt or rolled insulation and may require vac removal of the insulation. Depending on the material you choose for your blown-in insulation there is the possibility of settling. If you choose cellulose blown-in insulation it will settle over time and in the process can lose up to 20-percent of its initial R-value (insulating ability). Fiberglass insulation does not settle, but will generally need to be installed in a thicker layer to provide the same level of insulating factor.

Importance of Insulating Your Home

If you have ever been in a poorly insulated home you have probably noticed how uncomfortable it can be in the hot summer months and the cold winter months. The heat seems to beat down from the ceiling in the summer, and the cold seeps in through the walls in the winter. A well-insulated home keeps the elements at bay and can offer you a great deal of savings when it comes to your annual heating and cooling costs. Contact Above All Insulation to find out if blown insulation is your best home insulation option or to schedule a consultation to determine which method of insulation is the best for your situation.
